Port Hacking Paddlers Honoured in NSW Parliament

Published Fri 02 Oct 2026

The incredible international success of the PHOCC's Golden Master Men's crew has been officially etched into New South Wales history, with the team receiving a formal Community Recognition Statement in the NSW Parliament.

Following their stellar performance at the 2026 IVF Va'a World Sprints Championships, the crew’s dedication, grit, and sportsmanship were championed by Mark Speakman MP, Member for Cronulla. Speakman stood before Parliament to formally acknowledge the crew's achievements, highlighting the pride they have brought to the entire Sutherland Shire community.

To mark the prestigious occasion, crew members were presented with commemorative certificates featuring the official Hansard text from the parliamentary session, serving as a permanent reminder of their contribution to local and international sport.

The parliamentary nod comes at an exciting time for our sport. The recent official launch of the Parliamentary Friends of Paddlesports and Rowing in NSW—co-chaired by Eleni Petinos MP and Karen McKeown MP—signals growing government support for the paddling community, ensuring clubs like Port Hacking have a strong voice at the state level.

Congratulations to the Golden Master Men's crew on this well-deserved honour. They have truly proven that passion and teamwork can take local paddlers all the way to the world stage.
